Welcome to the sixth installment of The Decades Edition for AXO Omega Alumnae. The Decades Edition is an ongoing series in which Sigma Psi Sigma, the virtual AXO Omega Alumnae Chapter, profiles alumnae from different decades. Check out these other AXO Omega Decades Editions: 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s. Each profile celebrates an inspirational and energizing sister. We hope these profiles inspire you to connect with an AXO Omega sister or two.

Introducing Camille Villanueva Schuyler - MC2006

2006 was a very good year for Alphi Chi Omega at Washington State University. It was that year that Camille Villanueva Schuyler ran home to NE Monroe Street. Camille became a member in her sophmore year and soon engaged at the highest levels. In fact, she was the VP, Recruitment for 2008.

Where did this wonder woman come from? She hailed from North Seattle in the city of Montlake Terrace. To be honest, one of the reasons that Camille headed towards the Palouse was to join her high school boyfriend at WSU. And here is where Camille's independence, maturity, and drive shows up. She told me that one of the reasons that she became an AXO is because she wanted the full college experience and that included being part of something that wasn't her (very important) relationship.

Mrs. Schuyler

In 2009, Camille graduated with a double major in Journalism and Psychology. In 2013, she graduated with a M.A. in School Counseling. All degrees were from Washington State University (Go Cougs!).

Camille started her career working for the Washington Department of Health and Family Services as a social worker where she made life-changing decisions for children who truly needed an advocate. After working at DHS, she moved into a new role as a school counselor for Bellevue School District where she has worked for over 10 years.

At her elementary school, she's thrives in a partnership with her teachers. As a school counselor, Camille creates strong social-emotional foundations for children at the earliest opportunity. Some children are still struggling with the consequences of the isolation during the pandemic. Other children benefit from a little extra help in areas like speech, reading, and math.

Like an orchestra conductor, Camille is able to direct the simultaneous actions of several experts or services by understanding needs and executing a masterful plan. She sets up children for success. In my book, there's isn't a more important job in the world. I imagine children greeting her all day with big smiles shouting "Hi Mrs. Schuyler!"

The Schuyler Family

That very important relationship mentioned earlier turned into a very important marriage. Yep. She married her high school sweetheart. You know how the song goes..."First comes love, then comes marrriage..." and then came three beautiful children. And how cool is this? Her son started calling her "Mrs. Schuyler!" as he started kindergarten at her school last year.

Camille's life is busy, busy, busy right now and will

be for the next 18 years or so. Her challenge; like many women in her position and many Omegas, is to not only show up for those who need her but also to show up for herself. Marriage is great. Kids are great. Work is great. And Camille is great too.

As someone who is on the other side of this stage of life; I wish all Omega Mamas the warmth and strength of sisterhood.

Camille Schuyler – We are proud to call you Sister!
